African Sign Languages

This group collects the African Language Families subcategory's national and regional sign languages, distinct manual-visual languages that arose independently of the Niger-Congo, Afroasiatic, Nilo-Saharan and Khoisan spoken-language phyla around them rather than belonging to any of this subcategory's other, phylum-based groups, whether indigenous or descended from an imported sign language tradition. Placement follows each member's own name identifying it as a sign language.
