Mozambican Sign Language is the principal sign language of the deaf community of Mozambique, used with some dialectal variation in at least the country's three largest cities, Maputo, Beira and Nampula. Standardization efforts were under way as of 1999, and the language is documented as independent of both Portuguese Sign Language and American Sign Language, though its exact origin is not recorded.
