Rwandan Sign Language, called Amarenga y'Ikinyarwanda in Kinyarwanda, is used by an estimated 33,700 people in Rwanda as of 2021, though it remains unclear exactly what sign language or languages are used across the country or how Rwandan Sign Language relates to Ugandan Sign Language. A dictionary project begun in 2006 produced a first standardized dictionary in 2009, and a broader dictionary project started in 2013 to document signs used nationwide.
