This group collects the North American Language Families subcategory's genuine language isolates and small, independent or disputed families that do not fall under one of this subcategory's other, more specific groups: Caddoan of the Great Plains, Chimakuan and Chumashan of the Pacific coast, Wakashan (explicitly, by its own description, a primary family with no demonstrated relationship to any other), Yuki-Wappo of California, Calusa-Tunica of the southeastern United States, Jicaquean and Lencan of Central America, and the Kiowa-Tanoan (Tanoan) family of the American Southwest. It also carries four members that genuinely belong to a family this atlas already groups under a DIFFERENT subcategory rather than repeat that group's name here and corrupt its single in-subcategory edge: three Central American branches of the South American Chibchan family (Isthmic, Talamanca and Votic) and one Trinidad member of the South American Arawakan family (Shebayo), together with the region's Antillean and other French-based and English-based creole languages.
