Tiwa language (Americas)

Tiwa is the Tanoan language of the Tiwa people of New Mexico, with a Northern dialect spoken at Taos Pueblo and Picuris Pueblo and a Southern dialect spoken at Sandia Pueblo, Isleta Pueblo and Ysleta del Sur Pueblo. Some scholars treat Picuris as its own dialect, though it remains largely mutually intelligible with the Taos dialect, while Northern and Southern Tiwa are no longer mutually intelligible even though the Tiwa people themselves consider their language one unified whole; the extinct dialect of Piro Pueblo was a Southern Tiwan variety similar to that of Isleta.
