The Eastern Malayo-Polynesian languages are a proposed branch of the Malayo-Polynesian languages within the Austronesian family, spoken across East Indonesia and the Pacific Islands, encompassing more than 700 languages. They form one half of the Central-Eastern Malayo-Polynesian grouping alongside the more loosely defined Central Malayo-Polynesian languages, though some linguists dispute that Central-Eastern Malayo-Polynesian itself is a valid genealogical unit rather than a geographic cover term.
