Austronesian (Oceanic) Languages

Austronesian is the language family of maritime Southeast Asia, the Pacific islands and Madagascar, and within the New Guinea and Pacific Language Families subcategory it covers every member descended from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian, the branch of Austronesian spoken outside Taiwan, together with the Formosan languages of Taiwan itself relabeled into this subcategory from Eurasian Language Families because their own sourced description identifies them as Austronesian rather than as members of any Eurasian phylum. Because the branch runs well past a hundred members in this subcategory alone, it is split into two child groups below, one covering the Philippine, Bornean, Sumatran and other western Malayo-Polynesian languages together with the Formosan languages of Taiwan, and the other covering the Oceanic languages of Melanesia, Micronesia's near relatives and the eastern Indonesian languages most closely related to Oceanic, each named for the region it covers.
