Czech is a West Slavic language, closely related to and substantially mutually intelligible with Slovak, and the official language of the Czech Republic. Standard written Czech and the everyday spoken language, often called Common Czech, diverge enough in everyday vocabulary and grammar that the relationship is sometimes described by linguists as a mild diglossia.
