Yokutsan

Yokuts, formerly called Mariposa, is the Yokutsan language family of the interior of Northern and Central California, spoken in and around the San Joaquin Valley by the Yokuts people. Speakers were severely reduced by disease, missionary activity and the Gold Rush, and today all of its constituent dialects except Valley Yokuts are extinct, though descendants of Yokuts speakers number in the thousands.
