Other Dialects and Varieties

Yemeni Arabic is a cluster of Arabic varieties native to Yemen and southwestern Saudi Arabia, with an estimated 30 million native speakers as of 2020. It is considered linguistically conservative, retaining classical features largely lost elsewhere in the Arabic-speaking world, and divides into regional groups including Sanani in the north and center, Hadhrami in the east, Taizzi-Adeni in the south and Tihamiyya in the west. Modern Standard Arabic, not Yemeni Arabic, is used for education, government, commerce and media.
