Gayil, also called Gayl, Gayi, Galila, Gelila or Northern Ari, is a South Omotic language of the Afroasiatic family spoken in Ethiopia's South Omo Zone within the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region. Ethiopia's 2007 census recorded about 55,700 to 56,000 first-language speakers, and the language is distinct from the unrelated Gayi language of Nigeria despite the similar name.
