Yurok language

Yurok is an Algic language indigenous to the traditional territory of the Yurok people on the far north coast of California, in Del Norte and Humboldt counties. Its last native speaker, Archie Thompson, died in 2013, but a revitalization effort begun by the Yurok Language Project at the University of California, Berkeley in 2001 has since been credited with the most successful language revitalization program in California, producing searchable online dictionaries and audio resources. As of 2020 about 350 people had some knowledge of the language, including 35 fluent second-language speakers, and by 2022 Yurok was being taught in high school and elementary classes across six schools in Northern California.
