Puyuma, also called Pinuyumayan, is the language of the Puyuma indigenous people of Taiwan and one of the more divergent members of the Austronesian family, falling outside standard reconstructions of Proto-Austronesian. It had roughly 8,500 native speakers as of 2002, most of them older adults, reflecting a generational decline in fluency, and UNESCO classifies it as vulnerable in its Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger.
