Karl Friedrich Christian Brugmann was a German linguist and one of the founders of the Neogrammarian school. He is best known for his contributions to Indo-European linguistics, particularly in historical phonology and morphology, and he helped formulate the Neogrammarian principle of the regularity of sound change. He was a principal author of the Grundriss der vergleichenden Grammatik der indogermanischen Sprachen, a reference work in comparative Indo-European grammar.
