Ticuna-Yuri is a small family, and by some analyses no more than a dialect continuum, of the western Amazon, comprising the major Amazonian language Ticuna together with the poorly attested extinct language Yuri and the scarcely documented language of the largely uncontacted Carabayo people, who may speak a descendant of Yuri. Its possible wider relationship to the Duho languages remains uncertain.
Facts
RegionWestern Amazonia, centered on the Ticuna language of Brazil, Colombia and Peru, with the extinct Yuri and the scarcely known Carabayo language also placed in the family. 1 Proto-Language StatusNo formal proto-Ticuna-Yuri reconstruction is reported; researchers argue the family relationship is well supported despite limited data on Yuri and Carabayo, based on comparative evidence rather than a published reconstruction. 1 In the Other Atlases
