A well-established family of languages spoken by the Mongolic peoples across Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, and neighbouring regions of Russia, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. Its members include Central Mongolic (Khalkha, Buryat, Oirat/Kalmyk), the Southern Mongolic languages and the extinct Moghol. A minority of linguists have grouped Mongolic with Turkic and Tungusic as part of the disputed Altaic hypothesis, but the internal unity of Mongolic itself is not in question.
