Marquesic is a subgroup of the Eastern Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family, comprising Marquesan, spoken in the Marquesas Islands and on Puka-Puka in French Polynesia, Mangareva, spoken in the Gambier Islands, and Hawaiian, spoken in Hawaii. It sits within the Central Eastern Polynesian classification alongside the separate Tahitic subgroup, both descending from Proto-Polynesian.
