Ellicean is a subgroup of the Nuclear Polynesian languages within the Austronesian family, proposed by linguist William Wilson in 1985 and named after the pre-independence name of Tuvalu. It comprises two branches, Ellicean-Outlier, including Tuvaluan, Nukuoro, Kapingamarangi, Nukuria, Takuu, Nukumanu, Ontong Java, Sikaiana and Pileni, and Samoic, comprising Samoan and Tokelauan.
