Chadic is a branch of the Afroasiatic language family spoken around the Lake Chad basin in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Its largest member by far is Hausa, spoken as a first or second language by tens of millions of people across West Africa and widely used as a regional lingua franca.
