The Arapesh languages are several closely related Torricelli languages spoken by the roughly 32,000 Arapesh people of eastern Sandaun Province and northern East Sepik Province in Papua New Guinea. They are notable for elaborate noun-class gender systems, with the Mufian variety alone carrying seventeen noun classes for count nouns plus further classes for proper names and place names; the group comprises the Bukiyip, Bumbita, Mufian and Abu' varieties.
