The Finno-Permic, or Finno-Permian, languages are a proposed subdivision of the Uralic languages comprising the Balto-Finnic languages, the Sami languages, the Mordvinic languages, the Mari language, the Permic languages, and a number of likely extinct languages. In the traditional taxonomy of Uralic, Finno-Permic is estimated to have split from Finno-Ugric around 3000 to 2500 BC and then branched into the Permic and Finno-Volgaic languages around 2000 BC. The validity of the group as a taxonomic unit is now questioned, and the relationships among its five branches remain debated with little consensus.
