Venetic

Venetic was an extinct Indo-European language, most often classified within the Italic subgroup, spoken by the Veneti people in ancient northeastern Italy, in what is now Veneto and Friuli, and in part of modern Slovenia. It is documented through more than three hundred short inscriptions dating from the sixth to the first century BCE, including a number honoring the goddess Reitia that form one of the chief sources of knowledge of the language. Venetic speakers were assimilated into Roman culture by around the first century, after which the language went extinct.
