The fifteen Katuic languages form a branch of the Austroasiatic languages spoken by about 1.5 million people in Southeast Asia. Speakers of Katuic languages are called the Katuic peoples. Linguist Paul Sidwell notes that Katuic and the neighboring Bahnaric languages do not share any common innovations, so despite their geographic closeness they form separate branches of the Austroasiatic family rather than a single branch.
