It is known for its slow, relaxed pace of speech, which strikes some listeners as gentle and others as dazed or frustrating, along with vowel shifts such as yo becoming yu and distinctive question forms and connective words. The dialect splits into northern and southern varieties, the northern resembling the Gyeonggi dialect and the southern resembling the Jeolla dialect.
