Gunggari dialect

Gunggari, also spelled Kunggari, is a dialect of the Bidjara language of the Maric branch of the Pama-Nyungan family, traditionally spoken in Queensland, Australia. Only three native speakers remained as of 2021, and while linguists have found the differences between Gunggari and Bidjara to be minor, the distinction carries real meaning for the communities themselves. Revival efforts include Gunggari lessons taught at St Patrick's School and Mitchell State School in Mitchell since around 2013, and the Gunggari Native Title Corporation's work compiling the first Gunggari dictionary.
