This group collects the extinct languages indigenous to the island of Tasmania, used by Aboriginal Tasmanians until the 1830s and known today mainly through the reconstructed regional classification of linguist Claire Bowern (Eastern, Northeastern, Northern, Southeastern and Western Tasmanian), a separate and unrelated grouping from every mainland Australian family in this subcategory's other groups. Placement follows each member's own description naming Tasmania or a named Tasmanian regional grouping.
