The Ngumpin-Yapa languages, also called Ngarrga-Ngumpin, are a family of Pama-Nyungan languages of northern Australia, spoken across parts of the Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. The family splits into two branches: Ngarrga, comprising Warlmanpa and Warlpiri, and Ngumbin, comprising Walmajarri, Djaru, Gurindji and Mudburra. The language Ngardi was at different times classified as belonging to either the Ngarrga branch or the wider Ngumpin group before being reassigned to the separate Wati family on the basis of further comparative work, illustrating the continuing revision of Pama-Nyungan's internal subgrouping as more data becomes available. Within the larger Pama-Nyungan family, Ngumpin-Yapa is generally placed in the Desert Nyungic grouping.
