Kariyarra language

Kariyarra is a Pama-Nyungan language of the Ngayarda branch, native to the Pilbara region of Western Australia and spoken by the Kariyarra people. It forms a dialect continuum with the neighboring Ngarluma language, and although the two are mutually intelligible, their speakers treat them as distinct languages reflecting the ethnic division between the Kariyarra and Ngarluma peoples. As with Ngarluma, only 11 native speakers were documented as of 2005; some sources describe an extinct variety called Jaburara as a possible third member of the continuum, though other evidence links it instead to Martuthunira.
