African Language Isolates and Small Families

This group collects the African Language Families subcategory's genuine language isolates, disputed proposals and language-contact varieties that do not fall under one of this subcategory's other, phylum-based groups, including Mimi of Nachtigal, a poorly attested extinct language of Chad known only from an 1870 wordlist, together with the region's Arabic-based and English-based creole languages. A member placed here is disclosed as unclassified, disputed or a contact language rather than assigned to a phylum it may not truly belong to.
