Hamer, also called Hamer-Banna, is a South Omotic language of the Aroid group within the Afroasiatic family, spoken in the South Omo Region of southern Ethiopia by the Hamar, Banna and Karo peoples. It had approximately 74,000 native speakers as of the 2007 census. Three dialects are recognized: Hamer, Banna and Karo.
