Andoque-Urequena languages

Andoque-Urequena is a proposed small language family pairing Andoque, a severely endangered language spoken along the Anduche River in the Putumayo region of Colombia, with the extinct Urequena, known only from a single nineteenth-century wordlist recorded by the Austrian naturalist Johann Natterer. The linguist Marcelo Jolkesky first identified the close relationship between the two. Andoque had roughly ten thousand speakers in 1908, a number that had fallen to around three hundred seventy a century later, with at most fifty of them monolingual. Some linguists place the pair within the larger proposed Bora-Witoto family, while others, finding the evidence insufficient, continue to treat Andoque as an isolate rather than as one half of this family.
