Araucanian

South American Language Families

The Araucanian languages are a small language family of indigenous languages of the Americas, spoken in central Chile and neighboring areas of Argentina. Its two living members are Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche people, with roughly 200,000 speakers in Chile and 40,000 in Argentina, and Huilliche, the language of the Huilliche people, spoken natively by a few thousand Chileans.
