Mosetén-Chimané

South American Language Families

Mosetén and Chimané (also spelled Tsimane) are the two varieties of a single South American language isolate spoken in the Bolivian lowlands. Mosetén is further divided into the varieties of Santa Ana and Covendo, while Chimané is spoken along the Beni River and around San Borja in the Beni department. Some linguists classify Mosetén and Chimané as two separate but closely related languages, since their speakers report no difficulty communicating and were evidently a single speech community separated only recently by cultural contact.
