Tacanan

South American Language Families

Tacanan is a family of about a dozen languages spoken mainly in Bolivia, with Ese Ejja also spoken across the border in Peru, comprising an Ese Ejja branch and an Araona-Tacana branch. Many of its languages are endangered, and a relationship to the neighboring Panoan languages has been proposed but remains uncertain. The family is noted for having among the richest systems of associated motion, grammatical marking of movement combined with another action, found in any of the world's languages, particularly in Cavinena and Ese Ejja.
