Choco

South American Language Families

Choco, also spelled Chocoan, Choco or Chokó, is a small family of Indigenous languages spread across Colombia and Panama and is counted among the world's primary language families. Its largest branch is Emberá, comprising two languages with more than 60,000 speakers combined that together form a fairly mutually intelligible dialect continuum, while Waunana, also called Noanama and spoken on the Panama-Colombia border, has about 6,000 speakers. Several other languages once associated with the family, including Anserma, Arma and Caramanta, are extinct and only tentatively classified within it.
