Andaqui

South American Language Families

Andaqui was a language of the southern highlands of Colombia, spoken by the Andaqui people, and is classified as a language isolate with no demonstrated connection to any other language family. It has at times been linked to the Paezan or Barbacoan language groupings, but no such relationship has been established. What survives of the language comes mainly from vocabulary lists compiled in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, suggesting an agglutinative structure using both prefixes and suffixes to mark grammatical categories such as subject and mood; the language is generally considered to have gone extinct by the 1970s, though some sources note the possibility that speakers survived beyond that date.
