Guarequena, documented on Wikipedia under the article title Warekena Velha and also called Warekena do San Miguel or Old Warekena, is an endangered Arawakan language of the Northern Arawakan, Upper Amazon, Orinoco branch, native to Venezuela and most closely related to Mandahuaca. Its name derives from the Guarequena word walekhena, meaning star people, and out of an ethnic population of 513 recorded in 2001, only about 180 native speakers remained as of 2012; this atlas's own live Baniwa of Icana entity lists it as one of the languages, alongside Tariana, Piapoco and Resigaro, forming one Aikhenvald-defined Arawakan subgroup.
