Najdi Arabic is the group of Arabic varieties originating in the Najd region of central Saudi Arabia, with about 19 million native speakers as of the late 2010s and early 2020s. Beyond Najd itself it is the main dialect of the Syrian Desert areas of Iraq, Jordan and Syria and is also spoken in western Kuwait. It divides into four regional varieties: Northern Najdi among the Shammar tribes near Hail, a mixed northern-central form in the Qassim region, Central Najdi around Riyadh which now serves as the prestige standard, and Southern Najdi spoken by the Qahtan and Banu Yam tribes.
