Wiru, also called Witu, is a Trans-New Guinea language and, by itself, one of the family's recognized branches, spoken by the Wiru people of the Ialibu-Pangia District in the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. It has been described by Harland Kerr, a missionary who lived for many years in the Wiru community; his work there produced a Wiru Bible translation, several unpublished dictionary manuscripts, and his own master's thesis on the structure of Wiru verbs.
