Indonesian Sign Language refers to several related deaf sign language varieties used in Indonesia, documented at least on the island of Java. It is based on American Sign Language with local admixture that differs by city. Though presented as a single coherent language when advocating for government recognition and use in education, the varieties used in different Indonesian cities may not be mutually intelligible.
