Sape

Sape (also called Kaliana or Caliana) is an extinct language once spoken along the Paragua and Karuna Rivers of Venezuela. It has been tentatively grouped with the equally poorly attested Arutani language in a proposed Arutani-Sape family, though the connection remains uncertain and Sape is sometimes treated instead as an isolate. Only nine people identified as ethnically Sape in the 2011 census, and the language's last fully fluent speaker, Ramon Quimillo Lezama, died in 2018.
