Remote Oceanic was a proposed subgroup of some 200 Central-Eastern Oceanic languages, spanning groups including Central Pacific, Eastern Outer Islands, Loyalty Islands, Micronesian, New Caledonian and North and Central Vanuatu languages, with members ranging from Fijian to Pohnpeian and the Polynesian languages such as Hawaiian, Samoan and Tongan. The grouping is not currently accepted: its original proposers, Lynch, Ross and Crowley, abandoned it in 2002 after concluding no defining shared features could actually be found among its members.
