Chamicuro language

Chamicuro is a language of the Arawakan family, within its Southern or Western branch, spoken in Peru around Pampa Hermosa on a tributary of the Huallaga River, with some displaced speakers found along the Yavari and Napo Rivers and in Brazil. It is nearly extinct, with only 8 native speakers recorded as of 2008 out of an ethnic Chamicuro population of about 100 people as of 2015, and no children speak the language since the community has shifted entirely to Spanish. A dictionary of Chamicuro has nonetheless been published, documenting the language despite the absence of intergenerational transmission.
