The Greater Magaric languages are a branch of the Sino-Tibetan family proposed by Nicolas Schorer in 2016, who considers Greater Magaric closely related to the Kiranti languages within a broader Himalayish branch that he does not treat as particularly close to the Tibetic languages, including Tibetan and the Tamangic languages. In the final print release of the Sino-Tibetan Etymological Dictionary and Thesaurus, James Matisoff instead proposed a related Kham-Magar-Chepang language group.
