Sentinelese language

Sentinelese is the largely undocumented language of the Sentinelese people of North Sentinel Island, part of India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal. The island's roughly 100 to 250 inhabitants have almost entirely refused outside contact, so essentially nothing of the language has been recorded beyond a handful of observed words and phrases; when Onge speakers of a related Andamanese language attempted to communicate with Sentinelese islanders, they could not understand what was spoken, suggesting real distance from their neighbors. Linguists tentatively place Sentinelese within the Andamanese languages, possibly closer to the Ongan branch that includes Jarawa, but with no substantial vocabulary or grammar on record, this placement is a proximity-based hypothesis rather than an established classification.
