Bugun

Bugun, also known as Khowa, is a small language of unclear classification spoken by the Bugun people of the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. It has been tentatively classified as a Kho-Bwa language, but later research by the linguist Robert Blench has suggested it may in fact be unrelated to the rest of that group, leaving its position uncertain. The language comprises six named dialects, Dikhyang, Singchung, Wangho, Bichom, Kaspi and Namphri, and around 900 people were recorded as speakers in 2001 out of a Bugun ethnic population of roughly 1,700 recorded a decade later, leaving the language under significant pressure from larger neighboring languages.
