West Central German is a branch of the Central German dialect family of High German. It includes Central Franconian, comprising Ripuarian and Moselle Franconian, the latter giving rise to Luxembourgish and, in Brazil, Hunsrik; Rhine Franconian, comprising Palatinate Franconian and Lorraine Franconian, whose emigrant descendants include Pennsylvania German in North America; and Hessian, spoken in Hesse and the Rhenish Hesse region of Rhineland-Palatinate.
