Tai-Kadai and Hmong-Mien

Tai-Kadai, also called Kra-Dai, the family that includes Thai, Lao and the Zhuang languages of southern China, and Hmong-Mien, also called Miao-Yao, the family that includes the Hmong and Mien languages of the same region, are two distinct language families of southern China and mainland Southeast Asia frequently discussed together because of their shared geography and long contact with Sinitic and Tai languages. This group holds every Eurasian Language Families member whose sourced description identifies it as Tai-Kadai, Kra-Dai, Kam-Tai, Hmong-Mien or Miao-Yao, or as a named branch within either family, including Kam-Sui, Be, Hlai, Hmongic and Mienic, rather than splitting the two small families into groups of their own.
