The Bodic languages, also called Bodish, are a proposed grouping of the Tibetic languages and related Sino-Tibetan languages spoken across the Tibetan Plateau and into northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, and northern Pakistan. The grouping is placed within the Tibeto-Kanauri branch of the wider Sino-Tibetan family and includes several subdivisions, among them the Tibetic languages proper, the East Bodish languages, the West Bodish or Tamangic languages, and Tshangla, together comprising dozens of languages and dialects. Linguists caution that it has not been demonstrated that all of the languages placed under Bodic actually share the common innovations that would make them a genuine single clade rather than a geographic grouping of convenience; the name itself derives from Bod, the Tibetan word for Tibet.
