Hungarian Sign Language is the sign language of deaf people in Hungary. Historical evidence links it to Austrian Sign Language, though a 2005 study by Bickford found that Hungarian, Slovak and Czech Sign Language instead cluster with Romanian, Bulgarian and Polish Sign Language. The same study noted around seven dialects of Hungarian Sign Language, corresponding to the residential deaf schools where each is taught.
